Video Accessibility - Captions, ASL and Descriptive Audio

Description

As our world advances in making documents and websites accessible, other areas are also starting to pick up speed in terms of accessible and inclusive communication, such as video, ASL, and descriptive audio. However, some organizations and enterprises are not familiar with implementing these channels. They have difficulty developing a functioning and sustainable process to deliver information in whatever accessible format an end user requests. Waiting for captioning or descriptive audio to be added to an existing video, waiting for verification of said captioning and audio to make sure the interpretation is correct, or waiting for someone who knows ASL to interpret a conversation, all of which could take hours, days, or longer is not acceptable and can result in severe repercussions. To avoid this, measures must be implemented to ensure communication flows freely, accurately, and promptly. In this session, we will discuss how it is possible to build a cost-effective, successful, and viable system, delivering immediately accessible communication to whoever requests it on demand. For those familiar with science fiction, think of Star Trek’s universal translator, but going even further, a translator that provides language interpretations and can deliver accessible and accurate forms of communication.
