Description

When organizations realize they need to make information and documents accessible, they often feel out of their depth. They have difficulty determining the best route for making their content accessible. They are dealing with meeting compliance requirements with which they are unfamiliar, and it is difficult for them to ascertain what tools to use, especially when they have different types of documents that could be coming from other sources. Taking this on can be daunting for any organization, but it can be incredibly intimidating if they are not experts at document accessibility. However, it doesn’t have to be, especially when using the right tools. This session will explore and compare two tools for manual remediation, both GUI based and one using AI/Computer learning for effective auto-tagging. We will show how these two tools work, demonstrating the two approaches and how there can be instances where a combination of automation and manual processing could be the most effective. During this session, there will be a demonstration of the two tools being used for remediation. There will also be a comparison of both tools, using the same document to determine the easiest and most efficient in creating not only accessible PDF but also compliant and usable. After remediation is complete, the last step will be testing the output to ensure the final PDF is WCAG, PDF/UA, and HHS compliant.

There is often confusion about what tools to use for remediating fully composed documents, especially PDFs. In this session, we will discuss, and demonstrate, two of these tools showing that using the right tool can make the process easy.
