- Description

An organization’s learning and development strategy is more important than ever before. Employees not only
participate in mandatory trainings, such as information security and creating a respectful workplace, but they also
rely upon role-based training to succeed in their current position and advance their career. When training is not
accessible or is not designed in a way that is conducive to the various ways people learn, it can create a deficit in
their learning experience and ability to understand and retain information.
Everyone has a learning style that aids in their ability to understand, apply, and retain the information being
presented.
There are four types of learning styles:
· Visual
· Auditory
· Kinesthetic
· Read/Write
These learning styles develop organically at a very young age and are just as unique as the learner themselves. It is
important to create training material that provides opportunities for each style of learner to experience the training
information in their preferred method.
When developing training, we need to not only keep in mind the different styles of learning, but also how to ensure
all content, multimedia, and exercises created are accessible to all learners, regardless of their abilities. The first step
is understanding how learners will be interacting with the content, what different types of assistive technologies may
be used, and what limitations may exist in the platform or LMS the training will be presented in.
