- Description

Accessibility shouldn’t be a process or design decision that is added after the fact. It is often easier to bake in accessible authoring practices in place of remediating to remove access barriers. eLearning, like any other form of online content, needs to be available to people with disabilities. All too often, when course designers and developers attempt to meet accessibility standards, the result is text-only, click-next eLearning that doesn’t embrace the level of engagement made possible by using today’s eLearning rapid development tools.
The purpose of this session is to present a category-by-category, high-level approach for crafting interactive and accessible gamified eLearning and microlearning for popular rapid authoring software. While the guidance presented will be tool specific, the strategic and technical eLearning authoring approaches can be applied to any authoring process and tool. The session will discuss accessibility requirements for common eLearning interactive elements. This session will discuss using a rapid authoring eLearning development tool (mainly Articulate 360’s Storyline) to develop eLearning microlearning that will both comply with accessibility guidelines and actively engage learners. This presentation will cover two main aspects of accessible eLearning authoring practices: (1) procedural steps to ensure accessibility; and (2) technical Storyline specific guidance.
