Optimizing Access to iDevices for Blind and Low Vision
- Date & Time

- Location

Presenter will review the fantastic accessibility settings built into iOS (including Siri, Zoom, Voiceover, Magnifier, accessibility shortcuts, switch access and voice typing). However, optimizing access to these devices involves more than turning on these features based on an area of need: low vision = zoom, blind = voiceover, fine motor challenges = switch access.
Will explore feature matching: determining optimal access to iDevices incorporating visual, physical access, personal preferences and language needs. Will look at how to utilize a variety of features and access options within iOS to optimize access. Use of Assistive Touch, external standard keyboards, braille displays and third party keyboard apps will also be explored and demonstrated. This will include use of Siri, keyboard shortcuts and custom Apple Shortcuts to control accessibility features. Will also touch on other third party apps such as apps for working with PDF files and OCR tools. Case studies will be shared, including how the access needs of students with low vision and multiple exceptionalities were more optimally met; less accidental selections and greater independence.
