The Importance of Marketing in Your Accessibility Program

Date & Time
Tuesday, March 14, 2023 - 10:20 AM PST
Location
Orange County 3-4
Description
Accessibility can be overwhelming for individuals. There are a lot of acronyms, unfamiliar terms and not well understood technologies. People know it is important, but they are not exactly sure what they need to do in their role or how it applies to them. This uncertainty is particularly common in divisions outside of product and engineering. As digital accessibility is ingrained in all our communications across the organization, it is essential that all employees be educated. But what is the best way to engage them? Few who step into a role in creating an accessibility program realize how important marketing is to the success of your program. However, it is crucial to engage teams across your organization. This session will discuss of our lessons learned while starting up an accessibility program at Pegasystems. Some challenges we ran into include lack of engagement, low attendance and not aware of offerings. Some lessons learned and recommendations include communicating in multiple channels, bringing content to the audience (rather then driving them to your own location), leveraging managers for influence and identifying passionate, evangelists within the organization who can support your efforts. Also, be bold and and be creative.
