Many low vision and blind users use screen readers, as do some users with learning disabilities. While screen readers have been around for decades, using a screen reader on the web has not always been easy.
In the very early days of the Internet, before the proliferation of the graphical user interface, it was easy for screen readers to relay text to users. However, with the inception of the graphical user interface, meaningful use of the screen reader became problematic.
Fortunately, screen readers advanced, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines were developed. With these guidelines in place, and with the continual improvement of screen readers interfacing with the graphical world, screen reader use became easier.
Now it is possible for a screen reader user to browse the web with digital bliss. This means that the screen reader user will have no problem comprehending, and interacting with, content on web pages that are designed with accessibility guidelines in mind.
In this presentation, presenters will demonstrate and discuss several web pages that result in digital bliss. While one presenter uses the screen reader on each page, the other presenter will talk about key elements on the page that make it a pleasure to browse.
