Often, accessibility issues that could be resolved in the design stage end up in front of users. Designers do have an inclusive mindset but struggle with knowing how to start, what exactly they should be considering, or how to communicate the accessibility intent to engineers.
We created a Figma annotation tool for hand-off to engineers. It makes it easy to check if designs are accessible and helps designers to communicate through accessibility annotations. The plugin gives easy to follow steps that focus designers on considering the experience and increase their confidence about what is expected from a design accessibility spec. At the same time, the output annotations provide engineers the guidance they need for implementation.
The session will go through the context of how this project came about and why we chose to build a Figma plugin. There will be a detailed demonstration of how the tool works, outlining its benefits and how it fits into the design process.
