Description
Technology has evolved to a point that societies are depended on the digital products and services it provides in all aspects of our lives. The lack of digital accessibility is also exasperated by the aging population that is increasing rapidly in so many countries. Assistive technologies are readily advancing and are available to everyone. As the need for building digital accessibility is highlighted in various ways, for many there is still a myth and a fear of how it can or should be incorporated in a product’s design and development life cycle (DLC). In addition, the current Usability Testing methods and approaches have not evolved to meet the needs, or satisfy all users. The management of many organizations still refer to accessibility testing as optional requirements and not necessary for the success of their products. Thus, contributing to the rapid increase of their own technical debts, and failure of their products. When the objectives of usability testing and accessibility testing are compared, they are not separate entities. In fact, they are one and the same. Without the digital accessibility requirements, the usability testers are not mindful of the needs and are not testing for all aspects of a product, with all types of test subjects. This is often based on lack of knowledge and empathy, as well as organizational mandates. So, the testing is incomplete. Experience Study offers a wholistic evaluation and testing approach throughout the product DLC.
