38th Annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference Has Concluded
Are Your Digital Ads Accessible?
- Date & Time
-
Friday, March 17, 2023 - 4:20 PM PST
- Location
-
Platinum 6 (LIVESTREAM)
- Description
-
We often focus on the accessibility of a website and forget about the digital ads that are being displayed on the site or digital ads that are created to drive traffic to the site. These ads, including digital ads that are now available on Facebook, Twitter or other platforms often have significant accessibility gaps.
This presentation will demonstrate the steps required to ensure Digital Ads meet WCAG standards using a holistic process from design to testing. Both display ads and social media ads will be reviewed, as well as video ads which can present significant challenges as the content needs to be accessible to all user groups so must be captioned and sufficiently audio described.
Finally, no holistic testing of digital ads would be complete without testing with assistive technology. We will review tips to test the accessibility of digital ads with the JAWS screen reader as well as testing for keyboard access and how to overcome some of the accessibility limitations in popular platforms.
Developing a better understanding of how the WCAG requirements apply to digital ads and how assistive technology users access your digital ads, ad creators can increase the accessibility of their ads and ensure that their messages are communicated to the widest possible audience.
