Pratsam has developed services for both the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant platforms, providing libraries with a plug-and-play service that can give the print-disabled end-user a good experience when accessing a library. Supporting both DAISY and DAISY Online, the Pratsam Reader Voice service can be customized for libraries, schools, companies and other organizations and easily integrated with already existing workflows and online distribution systems.
Time has been invested in developing but also testing the service with real end-users and professional UX specialists, to make the service as intuitive, usable and accessible as possible. In this session, Pratsam will present the challenges and solutions made to enable the end-user to have a smooth experience and be able to find and access content with voice only.
From 15+ years of developing both apps and hardware players for the playback of accessible DAISY books, a lot of experience has been gained at Pratsam on how to design audiobook player user interfaces for the visually impaired. Pratsam started developing a proof-of-concept for an online library service supporting digital voice assistants in 2019.
Pratsam has built an online solution, delivering over 40.000 accessible books online to print disabled end users, for the national special library Celia in Finland. The service is used by over 50.000 print-disabled end-users today.
