Description
Transition is defined as the process of moving from one condition or state to another. Two major transitions occur in one’s life when it comes to education and work: the transition from K12 education to higher ed and from higher ed to the workplace. Technology made available to a learner in the classroom can help facilitate not only access to the curriculum but also necessary support to persist and move through one’s educational career. This technology has been found to be just as critical when individuals move into the workplace. A single tool used continuously throughout all segments of one’s education and work career can be key to more seamless transitions and success. This session will explore the literacy support tool, Read&Write from a lens of use throughout the education and workplace continuum. Attendees will understand the tool as a student begins use in the K12 setting, giving them access to course content and supporting them as they work toward graduation. As students move into higher education, this same tool can be used as they gain skills for the workplace and learn in this more advanced and intensive setting. Finally, within the workplace, students will already have mastery of the tool given the long standing use. Individuals can continue to use Read&Write when making their mark on the working world. By having continuity throughout the lifespan, individuals can be more confident, more successful and spend more time excelling in their programs or work.
