Description
Our presentation will embark on a typical fan’s online experience with emphasis on four major events: the World Cup, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and March Madness. There are many players on our roster, as this presentation will focus on: game information and articles, scores and standings, ticketing, merchandising, and of course, how to watch the games. The event-specific website, whether it’s FIFA, MLB, NCAA, or the NFL, is the first stop to learn more but how accessible are they? With games moving quickly and played simultaneously, what does the typical user experience look like for someone following on-the-go? Then, to watch the games—there’s television and streaming. What do these channels have in their playbook for accessibility with respect to captions, audio descriptions, and beyond? These events bring in billions of dollars in revenue. We will discuss more on where fan dollars are spent, specifically with ticketing and merchandise, and if the entire checkout process is one with accessibility in mind. The presentation will focus on fans with disabilities and how their assistive technology interacts with the various experiences denoted above. How do the global rules and regulations of accessibility, like the WCAG and country-specific legislation, play out? Our presentation will focus on how each of these areas impact accessibility, and vice versa. For events of this size, the stakes can be high. With the world watching, just what is the final score?
