Accommodating Mental Health in the Workplace

Date & Time
Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 1:20 PM PST
Location
Elite 1-3
Description
As workplaces are shifting from in-person to hybrid and remote, the need for stability is tantamount. The best way to increase employee productivity and retention of those with mental illness is through acceptance by accommodations, all under the lens of accessibility. There are many difficulties to accommodate a hidden disability. Perhaps the most apparent is unpredictable attendance. Alternatively, there is also the danger of inspiration of the employee with a mental health disability in the workplace. We will discuss how inspirational employees serves as a disincentive by demeaning the disability and creating a false sense of accomplishment. We will share suggestions to advertise your commitment to inclusive hiring and how to remove unintentional barriers. Our presentation will include a diverse collection of accommodations for employees with mental health disabilities. Some of these will be technology-focused and others will be human-centric, but all will accommodate a mental illness.
