ANCA Glendale Welcomes 2017 Summer Interns

Tatevik Mkrtchyan was born and raised in Armenia, where she graduated N 46 high school in Yerevan concentrating in humanitarian studies. She studied law at the French University in Armenia and is currently a junior at California State University, Northridge majoring in political science. She participated in the Armenian Republican Model UN Conference, and served as an intern at Legal Advisory Department of Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, as well as ELL Partnership Law firm. Tatevik has volunteered for Armenian Red Cross society (Youth Department) and was involved in Smiley club program. In conjunction with obtaining experience in a relevant field and in-depth understanding of different aspects of governmental affairs, through this internship she hopes to contribute to the Armenian American community in Glendale. -- Asbarez

Sosé & Allen’s Legacy Foundation Continues Support for AYF Youth Corps

Among them are this year’s recipients of Sosé & Allen’s Legacy Foundation Fellowship supporting volunteerism in Armenia. Since 2014, the fellowship has supported those who want to make a change and bridge connections between the youth of Armenia and the diaspora. This year’s Fellowship recipients are Sose Kurdian, a history major at Cal State University, Northridge, Melody Nazarbegian, a biology major at UC San Diego, Sareen Ohannessian, studying environmental management and protection at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and Armine Kalbakian, an anthropology major at Cornell. -- Asbarez

OPINION: Colleges are impelling the injustice of ‘social justice’

There are now more than 100 U.S. colleges and universities that offer majors, minors and advanced degrees in social justice, according to a recent analysis from The College Fix. Among these are at least 64 minor programs, 18 four-year degree programs, 15 master’s degrees and two doctorate programs. The list includes California schools like the University of San Francisco (minor in Jewish Studies and Social Justice), the University of Southern California (minor in Gender and Social Justice), Cal State Northridge (B.A. in Social Justice and Social Welfare) and Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara (doctoral concentration for Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Inclusive Leadership for Social Justice). -- Orange County Register
