Technological Resources

  1. Create a Google account if you do not already have one.
  2. Complete the following surveys on the 710 Wiki site.
  3. Edit your pre-made student page in the 710 Wiki site. You will use this account to link to your wiki contributions and to link to your personal website. Edit your student page to include the information requested. To edit your student page, click the "Edit page" button then use the word processing features that appear in the tool bar. Keep the headers but change the text and the photo. Click on the save button when you are finished editing. You can re-edit your work as often as you like.
  4. Create a personal website/wiki using Google sites in your own account. You will use this account to post your research papers. This website may look similar to your student page, but the difference is that it is in your account and you maintain complete control. Personalize the home page and put links to all papers you write for your doctoral classes in the sidebar on the left.

Readings & Writings

  1. Read about the landmark 1983 Nation at Risk Report, then read the recommendations of the commission. The full text of the report is available if you want to read it. Pick an element of the report that you find particularly interesting and write a few paragraphs clarifying the issue and describing how American education is doing relative to the commission's recommendations. Link your comments .
  2. In 2007 The National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine. Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future. Read the summary of the report and make a few paragraph comment on an issue related to education following the procedure in part 1. The full text of the report is available online if you want to read it. Link your comments .
  3. Review the the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) Study 2007 results. Submit a question and provide an answer in one of the following categories. (a) Research methodology; (b) Relative performance of American students. (c) Implications of the study. Submit your question here.
