About the Special Education Intern Program
The California State University , Northridge (CSUN) Special Education Intern Program provides an opportunity to complete a preliminary credential while on-the-job. The Special Education Intern Program, offered in collaboration with local school districts, include credential coursework, field experiences, and seminars that prepare interns to work effectively with special education students. The program is available to interns pursuing an Education Specialist Preliminary Level I Credential in Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities, or Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Courses are offered in the late afternoon and evening with the program typically completed in two years and two summers. A minimum of six units, including a 3-unit field experience seminar, must be completed each semester. Each program is aligned with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
