Introduction to Human Geography - Midterm Study Guide: Folk Housing Flash Cards

Inspect the photo and answer the question below.

This house is an I house.  It got its name because it is common in the Midwest where several state toponyms begin with the letter “I”.  It is also easy to find in Mid-Atlantic states, and south into Virginia and North Carolina, where a front gable is often added.  It is two rooms wide and one room deep, with two stories.  Many traditional models have chimneys on the gabled ends of the house, but no windows on the gable ends.  Will have a central front door and symmetrically placed windows aside the door.  May be built of wood or brick.
