This house is a Creole Cottage, also called a Grenier House. It is found mostly in the Lowland South, especially Louisiana, but also can be found in other locations where French settlers built homes. It features an “ensconced” porch, which has an unbroken roofline with the rest of the roof. It’s generally built of wood, two rooms wide, a story and a half. Rooms often have separate front doors. Chimneys are small, or missing and there is sometimes an external staircase leading to upper floor sleeping room.
