Visit China During Spring Break 2009!

The objective of this enticing trip to China is to provide a unique field trip opportunity to undergraduate students in the College of Business & Economics and the College of Humanities to learn about culture, language and trade between the United States and China.This field trip to China takes place during spring break of 2009 and it offers:


• An eleven day, faculty led trip with a focus on global logistics, culture, and language

• Subsidized cost through a grant from the Department of Education

• An inside, hands-on view into global logistics strategies and practices Visits to historical and culturally rich sites in China with nine other undergraduate students from the colleges of Business and Humanities at Cal State Northridge

A professor from the College of Business & Economics will lead this excursion and share his wealth of knowledge and insight with students in the group from the College of Business & Economics and the College of Humanities . The trip is full of education and adventure. This unique program brings the classroom to life with real world experiences and hands-on learning.

 

The Requirements:

Eligible students should have a strong interest in learning about culture, history and trade relations between the U.S. and China . Furthermore, qualified applicants must be undergraduate Cal State Northridge students with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. A deposit will be required upon acceptance. A valid passport is needed for the trip.

 

Cost: Subsidized cost through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education is $1,300, This includes round trip airfare, travel within China11/17/08 visa fee and taxes.

Itinerary:

Thursday, April 2nd: USA/Beijing
Depart USA to China , enjoy delicious meals, drinks, and in-flight entertainment for our journey.

Friday, April 3rd: Beijing
The flight arrives at Beijing , we are met by our tour guide and to be transferred to our Luxury Hotel.

Saturday, April 4th: Beijing (AB, L, SD)
Beijing is the capital of China , and the host city for the 2008 Olympics. We embark for a full day tour, begins at Tian An Men Square, the largest public square in the world, its monuments and buildings situated around the square's perimeter. Then we visit the Forbidden City and Summer Palace , enjoy a walk along Lake Kunming . Dinner is served at a fabulous Peking Duck Banquet.

Sunday, April 5th: Beijing (AB, L, D)
The Great Wall of China is one of the seven great man-made wonders of the world and definitely the focal point of China . Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant followed by a visit to the historic Hutong and Alley of Beijing old town, take in the sights and sounds of the Beijing of olden times. Enjoy the Traditional Chinese Kung-fu Show tonight.


Monday, April 6th: Beijing/Chongqing/Yangtze River (AB, L, D)
Visit the Temple of Heaven , where the Emperor prayed for harvest in Ming and Qing dynasty. We board a flight to Chongqing , visit Chongqing Zoo, where we can have an intimate contact with pandas. stop at Ci Qi Kou old town. Then embark the President 2 Cruise (4 Star).

Tuesday, April 7th: Yangtze River (AB, L, D)
Excursion at Shibaozhai or ‘ Ghost City ' Fengdu, depends on the river condition. Shaibaozhai is famous for its 12-story tall, 400 year old wooden pagoda, which is balanced precariously on top of the steep cliff.

Wednessday, April 8th: Yangtze River (AB, L, D)
Sail through Qutang Gorge, the shortest and most dramatic one of the Three Gorges, and Wu Gorge, famous for its quiet beauty. Disembark at Wushan where we board small riverboat for a leisurely ride through Shennong Stream, which offers clear running waters, picturesque rock formations, and even monkeys and goat along its banks. Sail through Three Gorges ship locks after dinner.

Thursday, April 9th: Yangtze River/Yichang/Shanghai (AB, L, D)
We disembark to visit the massive Three Gorges Dam Project in the morning, The ship sails through Xiling Gorge, the longest one of the Three Gorges. Disembark at Yichang, take a 2-hour flight to Shanghai; upon arrival, visit Shanghai Museum, see the ancient Chinese art, furniture and jade. In the evening, we attend a Chinese Acrobatic Show.

Friday, April 10th: Shanghai (AB, SL)
The full day city tour includes a visit to Yu Garden, a classical Ming garden built by a wealthy businessman for his parents as an act of filial piety. Enjoy a traditional Mongolian BBQ Buffet lunch. Visit Shanghai Children's Palace. Take in the local scenery at bustling shopping district Nanjing Road and travel along the famous Bund, a five-block long riverfront promenade containing many of Shanghai's banks and trading houses. Hop aboard a cruise of the Huangpu River, taking in the magnificent twinkling night scenery of Shanghai. Today's dinner is on your side.

Saturday, April 11th: Shanghai (AB)
Enjoy your free day, activity arranged by yourself.

Sunday, April 12th: Shanghai/USA (AB)
We are transferred to the airport for our flight back to the States, or begin the optional Post-Trip Extension.

 

The Selection Process:

The selection process is highly competitive. Only a limited number of students will be invited to participate in the program. We recommend that interested students submit their application on or before November 3, 2008 to be fully considered. Decisions will be made by December 1, 2008. The selected students will be invited to an orientation before departure.
