Shielding the Community: CSUN Creates Protective Gear for Health Care Workers

CSUN departments are collaborating to create 1,500 potentially life-saving face shields for area health care workers. Professor Bingbing Li in the Department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management worked with the CSUN Library, Division of Student Affairs and the CSUN Foundation to secure supplies for face shields to donate throughout Southern California.

While Matadors are hunkered down at home, new CSUN-specific Zoom video-conferencing backgrounds offer a taste of campus from afar. The spirited backgrounds are available for all students, alumni, faculty and staff.

In Just Days, CSUN Professors Learn New Ways to Teach and Connect

Many faculty members had never taught virtually before CSUN leaders made the call in March to move to remote instruction, and the speed of the transition was such that many of them had only days to prepare. Faculty members and students are figuring out this new system on the fly, but the results have been encouraging.

Alumni Association Scholarships Application Deadline, May 1

Students are encouraged to apply for an Alumni Association Scholarship. Fifteen $2,000 scholarships are available for first-generation, legacy and graduate students.

2020 CSU Faculty Innovation and Leadership Award (FILA) Nominations, Due May 1

The FILA program recognizes faculty contributions to student success. Each awardee will receive a $5,000 cash award and $10,000 allocated to their academic departments to support awardee activities. The deadline to nominate a faculty member, or team of faculty members, for this prestigious award is May 1.
