In Minneapolis, Student’s Photos Share Movement
with the World

When thousands of people gathered in Minneapolis to protest for equality and justice, CSUN journalism student Brandon Bell jumped on a plane to go photograph one of the largest movements in American history. His voice as a Black journalist has been a valuable asset when telling this story, and his images have been picked up by publications all over the world, including The New York Times, ABC News, the Washington Post and The Guardian.

 
 
 
 
 
 

CSUN Officials Assess Impact of CalFresh Healthy Living on Community

Funded by a four-year grant from the Los Angeles County Department of Health, CSUN’s CalFresh Healthy Living initiative provided community gardens, nearly 800 free nutrition education workshops, and a food distribution program to make a positive impact on the health and wellness of the people who live in Canoga Park. CSUN’s Marilyn Magaram Center and Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing have plans to continue the initiative’s efforts.

Matador Parent, Volunteer Helps NASA ARCS Students Express Their Ideas Through Writing

Honey Kessler Amado, a Matador parent, CSUN Foundation Board member and a distinguished appellate attorney, helps the young researchers of the NASA-sponsored Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM (ARCS) to express themselves clearly in writing. She taught several workshop sessions with the students of ARCS, where students of all majors can participate in research into increasingly autonomous systems.

Design Cover Art for the ‘The Independent 88.5 FM Studio Sessions Volume 1’ Vinyl LP

This fall, CSUN and Saddleback College’s public, member-supported 88.5 FM, Southern California’s leading Triple-A (adult album alternative) format station will produce a vinyl album collector’s item for the upcoming Fall Fund Drive. The station is holding a contest to design cover art for the album — all creatives are invited to submit by Aug. 28.
