Invitation to Share Comments with the Oviatt Library Name Working Group, 10 a.m.-noon, June 24

Last fall, President Dianne F. Harrison commissioned a working group to review the question of whether the University Library should continue to carry the name of former Interim President Delmar T. Oviatt. Questions about Oviatt’s past arose in spring 2019 when a group of students expressed their belief that Oviatt was a “racist and oppressive figure” who was “…a persistent opponent to the creation and existence of cultural studies during the period of his tenure as President.” The working group is now comparing Oviatt’s attitudes and actions against our current vision, values and mission. Members of the CSUN community are invited to share their information, thoughts and opinions on the matter during a Zoom meeting of the working group on June 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Written comments may be emailed to oviattlibrarynamingcommittee@csun.edu.
