Chicana/o Studies Professor Receives Mellon Grant to Foster Climate Change Leaders

A grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to CSUN Chicana/o studies professor Stevie Ruiz (second row, fourth from right) and other academics across the country will help foster a new generation of leaders who understand the connection between climate change and the disproportionate impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on communities of color. CSUN students and faculty members will document how overlooked communities are tackling pandemic challenges, helping shape public policy as well as future classroom instruction.

 
 
 
 
 
 

‘We Matadors Are Resilient’: New Student Convocation Welcomes Students Under Unique Circumstances

New Student Convocation, which welcomes incoming freshmen and transfer students to their new home each fall, took place virtually this year, with reminders about the resources and opportunities available during a primarily virtual semester. Even amid a pandemic, Matador pride still unifies us, said CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison, who along with other university leaders offered encouragement and tips for success.

CSUN No. 2 Most Diverse Learning Environment, Per Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education

CSUN’s learning environment remains the second-most diverse in the nation, according to the newest Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. CSUN’s standing was based on diversity and inclusion, both among faculty and students, as well as the number of international students who study at the university.
