CSUN’s Animated Opera Is a New Way to Experience Musical Performance

In a monumental effort unlike anything in CSUN history, 107 students from the art, music and theatre departments joined forces to present Giacomo Puccini’s one-act opera “Gianni Schicchi.” The musicians recorded their audio and video parts at home, and then animators and visual effects artists combined the recordings and created striking animated backgrounds to bring the production to life. The opera will premiere May 8 on the CSUN Opera YouTube channel.

 
 
 
 
 
 

CSUN President Discusses Equity at National Briefing on Hispanic-Serving Institutions

CSUN President Erika D. Beck discussed CSUN’s efforts to boost the success of Latinx/a/o students, on a panel of higher education leaders examining the national impact of Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The event, which included new U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, was part of a series of briefings by national nonprofit advocacy group Excelencia in Education.

Students in CSUN’s Autonomy Research Center for STEAHM (ARCS) are developing augmented-reality spacesuit information displays that could be used to assist astronauts during NASA’s upcoming Artemis mission to the moon.

‘The Making of The Soraya,’ April 30

Ten years after The Soraya’s opening, CSUN President Erika D. Beck and The Soraya Executive and Artistic Director Thor Steingraber will co-host an event that includes conversations with former CSUN President Jolene Koester and former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who reflect on the pivotal moments that made history in Los Angeles.
