Biography

Areas of Interest: Environmental and solar power issues.

Professor Karpel teaches CJS 320 Introduction to Criminal Law.

Mr. Karpel has been a member of the State Bar of California for the past 20 years. He is admitted to practice law in California and the U.S. Federal District Courts of California.

Mr. Karpel is a founding member and active partner in his own law firm.

Mr. Karpel works also with Bloomberg Law, assisting 40 of the largest firms in California with analytics, legal research and business development.

Mr. Karpel was recently on faculty as a lecturer for the Nazarian School of Business and Economics at California State University, Northridge and is currently teaching Jurisprudence and Law in the Political Science Department, and for Criminology & Justice Studies.

Mr. Karpel has experience in Cannabis business formation and regulation/compliance, Personal Injury, Product Liability, Business Litigation, Criminal Defense, Subrogation, and Estate Planning.

Mr. Karpel has represented numerous clients in the Cannabis cultivation and marketing areas including Real Estate/Lease negotiations, licensing, distribution, and manufacturing for cannabis businesses.Mr. Karpel is also CEO and General Counsel ofZeroCostSolar.com where he managed a team specializing in sales and marketing support for NASDAQ traded SolarCity/Tesla. Currently the company supports national sales for Sunrun and Sunpower.

Mr. Karpel has conducted hundreds of depositions, arbitrations, and mediations for numerous insurance, subrogation and business matters with clients such as United Services Automobile Association, State Farm and Allstate Insurance Company.

Mr. Karpel was a California State Bar Continuing Legal Education lecturer and National Sales Specialist at Thomson Reuters (Westlaw) for 18 years where he assisted large law firms, Fortune 500 Corporate Legal Departments, State/Federal Courts and Government entities with legal research and compliance support.

Mr. Karpel has has been a regular lecturer teaching Continuing Legal Education Seminars on Legal Research and Technology and Deposition Skills for Thomson-Reuters for over 18 years. In this role he was instrumental in providing free legal research programs for Bet Tzedek, an organization that provides free, comprehensive legal services for low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles.

Mr. Karpel was a frequent lecturer, teaching Westlaw online legal research courses at numerous law schools in Southern California including UCLA, Loyola, Pepperdine and Southwestern.

Prior to completing his J.D. at Southwestern University School of Law in 1994, he received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine in 1991.

Mr. Karpel is passionate about the environment and Solar energy policy. He frequently lectures on alternative energy and the future of electricity in the United States.
