“What he [Knight] said was sensitive and kind-hearted, and he’s accused of being violent,” said Peter Marston, a professor of communications studies at Cal State Northridge, noting a discouraging trend in political discussion. “It was bad enough when there was no middle ground for people to talk about. Now we’ve reached the point where [people feel that] if you don’t say what I believe, you’ve committed an affront to me.”
