O'Laughlin, a Pioneer Press All-Area Football First-Team Offense selection, said he was comfortable playing football far from home. His older brother Casey, a senior at Fenwick, is signed to play baseball at Northwestern. His father, J.J. O'Laughlin, was a California native who played quarterback for three seasons at Illinois before transferring to Cal State Northridge. His mother, Kathleen, played collegiate volleyball at Illinois and Cal State Northridge.
