Student Advisement Requirements
- All College of Engineering and Computer Science students are required to seek advisement prior to registration.
- This is the time to spend with your advisor to ensure you are on track with your educational goals and planning a realistic schedule for the following semester.
- Your academic advisor can also answer many other types of questions that you may have or refer you to the appropriate resource (list of advisors provided below)
Which students do we Advise?
Our SSC/EOP office advises all engineering and computer science students who identity as the following:
- I am a First-Time Freshmen
- I am a Continuing Student who is enrolled in 100 and/or 200 level courses in your major (if in 300 level & higher must contact their department. Numbers are listed at the end)
- I am an EOP Student
If you identify with one of the following, you
DO NOT meet with our office. Instead, contact your major department office (d
epartment office numbers are listed at the end)- I am on Academic Probation
- I am Academically Disqualified
- I am enrolled in Junior-level major courses (300-level major courses)
How to prepare for your advisement appointment.
Prior to your SSC/EOP Advisement, complete the forms listed below that identify with your academic level and bring them to your appointment. Failure to do so will result in having to reschedule your appointment to a much later date.

The Tutorial Center is available beginning the 2nd week of every semester. By request, provisions for weekend and night tutoring can be arranged.

Additional Tutorial Programs:
As a part of our commitment to help students achieve academic success in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, we offer the following 3 programs below.
Each tutorial program is committed to helping students develop a better understanding of course content.
- Facilitated Academic Workshops provide a weekly, group facilitated, study session to engineering and computer science related courses that have a high academic failure rate each semester. The current targeted courses for FAW are: AM 316, CE 240, ECE 240, ME 370, and Comp 110.
- The Cooperative Learning Participation program provides individual and group tutoring to students enrolled in over 200 engineering and computer science related sections throughout the semester.
- Living Learning Community - students in the Living Learning Community Dorm are provided with in-house tutoring for science and engineering related courses.
On average, 90% of students that participate in our Tutorial Programs pass their class! These programs work!!!
We encourage EOP students majoring in Engineering and Computer Science to seek regular support through our office. Some of the support and services we provide include:

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program at California State University Northridge (CSUN) is part of a state and national effort to help students succeed. The program is a joint project between the National Science Foundation and the California State University System.
LSAMP's goal is to increase participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) especially for those underrepresented in these majors.
At LSAMP we support participating students with majors in science (such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology), or technology majors (including engineering, math, & computer science) to attain baccalaureate degrees, and to complete graduate school.
Students may apply to LSAMP at any time. Stop by our office today for more information about the services we provide and/or to fill out an application.
