A photo exhibit by CSUN journalism student John Saringo-Rodriguez, focusing on CSU Monterey Bay's only open transgender student, will open on Thursday, Oct. 17 with an evening reception.

CSU Monterey Bay student Jasmine Mosebar's story is depicted by Saringo-Rodriguez in a collection of photographs. Saringo-Rodriguez, a senior, met Mosebar while attending the CSU Summer Arts program, where he delved into documenatry photography under the guidance of photographers Darcy Padilla and Ed Kashi.

"Kashi inspired to fill the frame with as much emotion as possible while Padilla forced me to be more detail oriented," Saringo-Rodriguez said. "I enjoyed and appreciated all of the artist’s critiques and as harsh as some of them were, I took what they said and used it as an opportunity to grow as a reporter and an artist."

Saringo-Rodriguez is photo editor at the Daily Sundial, where he has reported on stories concerning diverse aspects of life at CSUN and surrounding communities, focusing on social and political issues.

The reception is from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday on the second floor of Manzanita Hall. Snacks and coffee will be provided.
