Alumna and Donor Serving the Community Through the MMC Wellness Clinic
Bio – Jeri Gertzman MS, RD, CDCES

We would like to welcome back CSUN Alumna, Jeri Gertzman, as our newest dietitian for the MMC Wellness Clinic.  Jeri is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.  She completed her Dietetic Internship and Master of Science degree in Food and Nutrition as part of CSUN’s first Dietetic Internship class in 1991. Jeri began her clinical dietetic experience at Tarzana Hospital, providing inpatient and outpatient nutrition counseling and education to patients with diabetes. In addition to her own private practice, she has worked collaboratively with several endocrinologists, providing individualized nutrition counseling and group classes, as well as workshops and lectures for health management groups and corporate wellness programs. Her specialties include: Diabetes Self-Management and Education, medical nutrition therapy in adult and childhood weight management, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular health, plant-based diets and nutrition for health and well-being through all stages of life.

When asked how she felt about coming back to her alma mater, Jeri replied, “I graduated from CSUN’s first Dietetic Internship Program in 1991, the same year that the Marilyn Magaram Center was established. In 2016, I had the pleasure of attending the 25th Anniversary of the MMC, and I was so impressed with the scope of accomplishments by the students and faculty. That experience compelled me to return and ask how I could be involved with the Center. My professional experience has mainly been as an outpatient dietitian and private practice, so when Dr. Besnilian mentioned that the next project was to open an outpatient nutrition clinic to serve the surrounding community, I was immediately on board! It is very gratifying to return to CSUN, thirty years later, as a mentor and staff dietitian for the MMC Nutrition and Wellness Clinic.”

The Nutrition and Wellness Clinic at the Marilyn Magaram Center (MMC) was founded with the mission to serve as the trusted nutrition and dietetics resource within our community, inspiring individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles through innovative education and counseling services. By providing quality services such as dietary analysis, body composition testing, nutrition and wellness workshops and nutrition counseling, the MMC has equipped the surrounding community with the necessary tools to attain optimal health and wellness.

Thanks to ongoing support from the Joseph Drown Foundation, all one-on-one nutrition counseling sessions via telehealth with our experienced registered dietitians are being provided to the community free of charge through the end of May. For more information on any of our available services, please contact magaram.center@csun.edu.

Thank you so much, Jeri, for your generous donations, time, expertise, and continuous support of the Marilyn Magaram Center!
