2015 English Master’s Degree Hooding Ceremony and Procession

During the English Master’s Degree Hooding Ceremony, students will be individually recognized, and Professor Jackie Stallcup (Chair of the Department of English), Kent Baxter (Graduate Advisor for the Department of English), or a faculty member of the student's choosing will place the MA hood over the head of the student, signifying their completion of the English MA program. After the ceremony, all of the graduates, faculty participants, and friends/family will proceed across campus to Jerome Richfield Hall for the English Graduation Reception and Student Award Ceremony. The English MA Hooding Ceremony allows faculty, friends, and family to honor individual student achievement in an intimate setting.

Date, Time, Location:

The 2015 English Master’s Degree Hooding Ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 15, in Chaparral Hall (CR) 5125. The English Graduation Reception and Student Award Ceremony will take place later that day at 3:30 p.m. in the Linda Nichols Joseph Reading Room (Jerome Richfield Hall 319). The Graduate Student Commencement will take place at 6 p.m. that evening.

Eligibility Requirements:

Students who received an MA degree from the Department of English during the Fall 2014 semester or who will be receiving an MA degree from the Department of English during the Spring 2015 semester are eligible to participate.

Guest Information:

All family and friends of the graduate are invited to attend. Tickets and reservations are not required.

Participation Requirements:

Students who plan to participate in the English MA Hooding Ceremony should contact Kent Baxter at kent.baxter@csun.edu. If a student would like a faculty member other than Professor Stallcup or Professor Baxter to place the hood over his/her head during the ceremony, he/she is responsible for making arrangements with that faculty member in advance of the ceremony.

Regalia:

Students who participate in the English MA Hooding Ceremony are required to order their own regalia (cap, gown, and hood) in advance of the ceremony. You can order your regalia online at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/csun/ or at the CSUN bookstore starting May 5.

On the Day of the Hooding Ceremony:

Students should arrive at Chaparral Hall 5125 at least 15 minutes before the event to line up. Students should bring a 3”x5” index card with their name as it should be read during the ceremony. Also, if a faculty member other than Professor Stallcup or Professor Baxter will be placing the hood over the head of the student, the faculty member’s name should be written on the index card.
