The wind picked up on what was supposed to be a calm, 95-degree September day on Castaic Lake, and suddenly no matter how hard Melony Varnado tried to steer her paddleboard left, it blew right. Under normal circumstances, this could have been alarming for Varnado, who had never been on a paddleboard before. But a certified California State University, Northridge instructor was there to teach her how to lay down on the board and paddle herself to safety. Read more

CSUN HHD Receives $1M from USDA to Support Future Dietitians

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded California State University, Northridge’s College of Health and Human Development a $1 million, four-year grant to support undergraduate and graduate students and enhance their education experience as they prepare for careers as registered dietitians.The grant, from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, is being used to create an “educational pathway” for students from community college through graduate school. 3 Wins Fitness, Strength United and Students Train for the LA Marathon

Faculty, staff and participants kicked off a training to run the LA Marathon and celebrate the partnership between CSUN's 3 Wins Fitness and Strength United with a Couch to 5K to LA mile walk/run on Oct. 7 at the CSUN track. About 40 people participated in the walk/run, designed as a first step toward the marathon. For those who missed the first event, it’s not too late to jump on board. A 5K on campus takes place on Oct. 29, at 8 a.m. in front of the Delmar T. Oviatt Library. Read more
