HHD Receives Federal Grant to Expand Lactation Education Program

A $150,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing the support for CSUN/HHD to expand its lactation education curriculum. As a result, CSUN can now offer students all the classes, except for the clinical experience, they need to qualify to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. CSUN is one of the few universities in the US that offers lactation educator training courses to its undergraduate and graduate students. Read more

Transforming Health and Nutrition in Canoga Park

It has been two years since CSUN faculty, staff and students launched the Champions for Change – Healthy Communities Initiative in Canoga Park, with the help of a grant from the California Department of Public of Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In that time, community gardens have sprouted at more than a dozen sites and the initiative has touched the lives of more than 28,000 people. Read more

PT Faculty Helps People Around the Globe Through Physical Therapy

The conditions of a country tell a story. In Blantyre, Malawi, they tell a hard story. In the African nation, extreme poverty leads to unsafe drinking water and medical care that’s far from adequate. With a scarcely resourced local police force, the nights are unsafe. Locals who can afford to live in a house in the city must barricade themselves inside their homes with chains and metal doors. These conditions would scare off a typical visitor, but for CSUN Physical Therapy faculty Janna Beling, they serve as motivation to make lives better. Read more
