In July 2016, Matthies was named the program's newest assistant coach. Matthies was fresh off a 15-11 record during his first season at California State University, Northridge and finished second in the Big West Conference standings. Garrett eventually found his way to Las Vegas, NV, however, and matriculated to the Henderson International School in suburban Henderson, in large part due to his excellence as a basketball player. Rob Phenicie introduced as Idaho State football coach
Before coming to Idaho State, he was at UNLV for five seasons. Prior to UNLV, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Montana from 2003-09, with his top achievement coming in 2006 when he received the Mike Campbell Award by the All-American Football Foundation as the top FCS assistant coach. 2017 All-SCV girls soccer
Matthews was arguably the most experienced player on the Indians’ roster this year. With a team-high 17 CIF playoff games under her belt, she was a confident defender who helped her team to 13 shutouts this past season. She also had four assists on the season.
