Dr. Hamer has been teaching continuously in the Department of Psychology at CSUN since January of 2005. Prior to Dr. Hamer's appointment to the part-time faculty at CSUN, he was a guest lecturer at UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, CSPP, and Antioch University. Dr. Hamer holds three degrees that are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) including; a B.A. in Theater Arts from The University of California at Los Angeles; an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Yellow Springs, Ohio; and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Pacifica Graduate Institute, Carpinteria, California. Dr. Hamer's post masters education was unique in that it included 2 ½ years of psychoanalytic training in the doctoral program at The California Graduate Institute in Westwood, California (which recently merged with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology) before completing another 5 years of Jungian training in the doctoral program at The Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Dr. Hamer entered graduate school in psychology during the 1990's. Prior to that time he was involved in financial brokerage and telecommunications. The Marc R. Hamer Companies, Inc. based in Beverly Hills, California, arranged brokerage sales in insurance and real estate, and provided consulting services in several areas including advertising, sales, marketing, distribution, and raising venture capital. American General Cellular Corporation, which Dr. Hamer founded, was one of the first companies to purchase interests in cellular telephone operations and licensing. Prior to these business ventures, Dr. Hamer was an actor, singer, and songwriter in the entertainment industry.
