OBJECTIVES
  1. The student will acquire a vocabulary of medical terms and abbreviations used in current practice of diet therapy.
  2. The student will review physiology and biochemical nutrition background as needed for class participation.
  3. The student will acquire the basic knowledge of the entry level dietetic practitioner in medical nutrition therapy.
  4. Case studies will be used to address:
    1. rational for therapeutic diets for major diseases
    2. how disease affects lab values
    3. calculations of specific diets to meet Pt. needs - TPN, Diabetes, etc.
    4. consideration of pt. culture, education in planning & counseling
    5. research the care study on the WWW and/or computer in library
  5. The student will demonstrate proficiency in the following:
    1. nutrition screening & assessment
    2. competent evaluation and documentation
    3. appropriate nutrition planning and intervention
  6. The student will practice the principles of effective oral and written communication.
  7. The student will demonstrate flexibility and interpersonal skills.
  8. The student will obtain a personal CSUN account on the Internet and will practice basic computer, WWW and email assignments as well as communicate with instructor via email.
