Marleni DePhilippis is originally from South America. She was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She received her B.S. in Health Education in 2010 from the California State University Northridge and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Public Health. She is Vice President of CSUN’s student organization Campuses Organized and United for Good Health (C.O.U.G.H.) which works towards the promotion of a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and the general public on the CSUN campus. As a part of C.O.U.G.H., she is currently part of a team conducting research to gather information that will support the adoption and implementation of a new smoking policy on campus. Besides tobacco policy and advocacy on campus, her areas of interest include women’s health, particularly breast cancer awareness and breastfeeding among the Latino population. She is also interested in communications in health education and is excited to have the opportunity to intern on the North East Valley Health Corporation’s Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services project this coming semester. One of her personal goals is to eventually get a Ph.D. focused on Global Health and to bring her professional knowledge and skills to her country of origin, Peru.
