(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 5, 2007) — Cal State Northridge Art Galleries invites the public to view the artwork of future Van Goghs and Picassos at the 11th Annual High School Art Invitational opening Friday, Dec. 7, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
More than 200 hand-selected students from 39 San Fernando Valley high schools will participate with displays featuring different types of media including painting, sculpture, video, graphic design and mixed media.
"This exhibition gives budding artists an opportunity to participate in a professionally sponsored and organized exhibition in the same space in which we show arts from recognized artists from all over the world," said Louise Lewis, director of CSUN’s art gallery, adding that the show provides and opportunity for the students to visit CSUN’s art department and its programs.
The exhibit is free and open to the public, and will remain on display through Jan. 12.
The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and on Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m. The gallery will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 due to campus-wide winter recess.
"Visitors can see certain trends, the level of work at different schools, and most importantly the considerable number of students interested in creating art and potentially pursuing a career in it," said Lewis.
