(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 30, 2006) -- High school students will display their artistic creativity at Cal State Northridge’s "10th Annual High School Invitational," opening in the university’s art gallery on Friday, Dec. 8, with a reception being held that evening from 7-9 p.m.
Free and open to the public, the exhibit will be on display through Jan. 13 in the Main Gallery, located between Halsted Street and Plummer Street (on North University Drive), east of Etiwanda Avenue, in Northridge.
More than 250 students from 42 San Fernando Valley area high schools will participate in the invitational. Students were selected by their individual art teachers at each high school. Various media will be featured, including painting, sculpture, video, graphic design and mixed media.
"The number of students that are being featured this year is record-breaking," said Michelle Giacopuzzi, the gallery’s exhibitions coordinator. "Once students see their work displayed in a professional gallery it helps inspire them to continue their artistic endeavors."
The exhibition’s popularity reflects the continued and growing interest of arts programs in public and private schools.
A discussion of the exhibit will be led by gallery director Louise Lewis on Monday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m.
CSUN’s Art Galleries are open to the public Mon. through Sun., from 12-4 p.m. and Thur., 12-8 p.m.
Parking is $4 and available in Lots D6 and E6 located off of Halsted Street.
For more information, contact Giacopuzzi at (818) 677-2156.
