Message from the Chair
Dear Finance, Real Estate, and Financial Services Majors:
This letter provides information related to your Fall 2008
enrollment decisions and future choices.
- Scholarships - Various scholarship applications for the Fall 2008 semester will be available September 15, 2008 in the Department office, JH 3125. These scholarships are supported by contributions from a number of individuals and corporations. We encourage you to apply.
- Student Portfolio Management Class - Applications for the Fall 2008 class are available in the Department office. This honors Finance 437 class manages a common stock portfolio currently valued at approximately $1,900,000. (Note: Students who have already completed Finance 437 may take the class on an independent study basis.) The class of 12 students has been offered each semester for more than 14 years and previous students are now working in consulting, investment banking, venture capital, and investment management companies or enrolled in major MBA and law schools programs. If your GPA is above 2.75, please apply.
- Impaction - Students seeking a change of major to Finance or Financial Services must satisfy supplemental criteria which requires the student to complete at least 60 units and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50.
- Major in Financial Services - The Financial Services option is specifically designed to prepare students for a career in the financial services industry: investments, insurance, and personal financial planning. The Financial Services option will help prepare our graduates for analytical, managerial, or sales careers in the financial services industry.
- Economics Minor - Students majoring in Finance, Real Estate or Financial Services may earn a minor in Economics by taking three additional courses in Economics (two of which may count toward upper division GE). - Student Finance Association - Please give serious consideration to joining and actively participating in the Student Finance Association (SFA). Membership applications are available in the Department Office, JH 3125, or on the SFA web site at www.csunsfa.org.
