Welcome to the Bookstein Tax Clinic
The mission of the Bookstein Tax Clinic is to provide free representation to low income taxpayers facing tax disputes with the IRS, and to educate low income taxpayers and taxpayers who speak English as a second language about their rights and responsibilities under the federal tax system. The Clinic operates year round and is powered by undergraduate accounting and graduate tax students who are trained to provide assistance to low income taxpayers. Under the supervision of an experienced tax faculty, students are assigned to represent low income taxpayers who are facing a dispute with the Internal Revenue Service. The services are offered free of charge to qualifying taxpayers. If you are facing a dispute with the IRS, and need assistance, please contact our office for more information at (818) 677-3600.
In addition to helping taxpayers solve their disputes with the IRS, the Bookstein Tax Clinic facilitates free educational workshops on variety of tax topics affecting low income taxpayers and small business owners. In the past, the Bookstein Tax Clinic facilitated workshops on the following topics:
- Federal Earned Income Tax Credit
- Dependent Exemptions
- Payroll taxes
- Small business taxes
- What You Need to Know When You Hire Employees or Use Contractors?
- Taxes after a Short Sale, Foreclosure or Loan Forgiveness
- What You Need to Know When You Run Your Business Out of Your Home?
- What You Need to Know about Federal Taxes and Your New Business?
- Energy credits
