The Distinguished Alumni Awards honors alumni who exemplify impactful professional leadership and thoughtful community involvement. The honorees are respected innovators in their industries and have elevated CSUN’s reputation and visibility with their commitment to their communities.

Award-winning producers

A successful entertainment industry couple, Wendy and David Knoller have helped shape award-winning television and premium cable series. As a producer and director, David has had a prolific career in premium cable and now in streaming, presently executive producing the hit drama The Changeling on Apple+. His past award-winning series include Carnivale and Big Love for HBO, Starz’ Power, and the pilots of Lovecraft Country and Freaks and Geeks. Wendy made her mark on beloved long-running shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Friends, for which she earned an Emmy for Best Comedy Series in 2002. Together they run Knollwood Productions.

Fred Rivera

Fred Rivera (History '90)
Business and community leader

As the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the Seattle Mariners, Fred leads the Club's legal and government affairs department, community relations and philanthropic investments, and sits on the board of the team’s regional sports network (ROOT Sports). Active in the community, Fred has held leadership positions with the United Way of King County, Seattle Community Colleges Foundation, and Hispanic National Bar Association, among others. Fred is also a board director with Heritage Bank and OAC Services, Inc.
