Ethics Assignment

RTM 251 - Introduction to Recreation and the Natural Environment

Environmental Ethic:  A brief summary of your individual life-style values and commitments while a sojourner on the planet.  Limit of 1 page. DUE DATE:  Check the assignments page. (grade value 6%)

The final assignment is hopefully one of integration and commitment.  As a concluding exercise write a one page (2-page may be okay) statement of your personal code of ethics as it relates to the environment. An ethic is a summary statement of essential beliefs or principles which tell you “how to best live.” Several examples are given. The intent of the assignment is that the ethic is your own.

Those who are perpetually grade conscious let me tell you the secret for full value on this assignment - think deeply, write concisely, and be genuine.  Please don't write this assignment based on trying to provide what you believe the professor wants to hear or try to draft some politically correct statement for the modern environmental movement.

SAMPLE ETHICAL CODES

The SHAKERTOWN PLEDGE was a shared ethic by a communal group that was founded in the late 18th century, peaked in the 19th century, and declined completely in the 20th. This ethic is broader than just an environmental ethic but serves as a statement that was very progressive for it's original context.
