Is 251 a GE course?
Yes, 251 is a 3 unit class which satisfies the lower division requirements for "Life Long Learning".
Is 251 meet other university requirements?
Yes, the course is certified as a 'writing intensive' class and as an 'information competence' class so if you need those requirements in your CSUN matrix of classes this class will qualify.
Is the online course have any on-campus meeting requirements?
No, this section of 251 is completely on-line and will not hold any regularly scheduled meetings at the CSUN campus.
Does the course demand a high level of computer expertise?
No, the course does demand basic computer literacy as do all on-line classes and any new functions (e.g. like taking Quizzes on line) are not difficult to learn. So this is a great course to try if you have not taken an on-line class before.
What textbooks are required?
There will only be one required text, 'Last Child in the Woods', and other reading material will be accessed through on-line links and postings. The text is available through regular on-line sources as it was ordered too late for CSUN bookstore.
What about the requirements for the class?
The assignments are outlined on the web page for the class and are all adaptations of assignments previously used in the on-campus version of the class. The assignments are not excessive but are required and are the gateway to your success in this class. Is there an outdoor experience required as part of this course?
Maybe. In some regular campus sections of this class there is a outdoor field trip as part of the class. The on-line version offers several options to provide an experiential learning component - one option of which is to participate in an outdoor field trip class. Check out the details under the assignments section where you will find a very flexible set of options that take you outdoors or 'almost outdoors'.
