Math 250 MW
(Monday, Wednesday)

Calculus III, Vector Calculus

  Spring 2018

This is the third semester calculus course at CSUN.  The general topic, vector calculus, is an essential part of the physical sciences and engineering, as well as mathematics. This course will extend the ideas and methods of first year calculus to functions of several variables. Topics include vector algebra, partial derivatives and their applications, multiple integrals, Green's theorem, the Divergence Theorem, and Stokes Theorem.

Class Meetings              Mondays & Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 12:15, Chaparral Hall 5208

Office hours Monday 12:15 to 1:15, Thursday 10 a.m. to 10:50, & by appointment

Prerequisite
Math 150B

Grading There will be three midterm exams, and one final exam.  The final exam will be cumulative. Each midterm will be worth 100 points and the final exam will be worth 130 points. The dates of all tests will be announced in class.  Plus grades (+) and minus grades (–) will be assigned.  Class participation will resolve boderline cases.

Final Exam: Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., LO 1125  (Live Oak 1125)

Homework Practice problems will usually be assigned for each section. It is important to complete or at least attempt all problems before the next class meeting.  Tests will be based largely on the homework and can include exact homework problems. Students are encouraged to work together outside of class.  Students should purchase access to homework problems online from mymathlab.com, click here.

Student behavior, academic dishonesty, university policies

Please arrive on time and avoid leaving early.  No text messaging.  Cell phones should be turned off during class and all exams and quizzes.  Seats may be reassigned during exams, and you must leave your ID on top of the desk.  You will need to turn in an exam or quiz if you leave the room, so go to the bathroom beforehand.  Academic Dishonesty is covered in Appendix C of the CSUN catalog. Academic dishonesty will be reported to the Office of Student Affairs.  For information about CSUN's policy for academic dishonesty, see http://www.csun.edu/catalog/policies/academic-dishonesty/

Note also that according to CSUN policy, a grade that is sanctioned due to academic dishonesty cannot be replaced by subsequent course grades:
