Chillicothe (Ohio) Class of 1984 20 Year Reunion News

Below is a copy of an April 7, 2004 email I got from Kim Johnson DiFrango, who is heading up the reunion effort this year:

Saturday July 3 will be the official class reunion.  It will be held at the Pump House Center for the Arts located in the city park.  There will be a baseball game with the Chillicothe Paints the evening before (FAMILY) for all those who will be in town.  There will be a picnic the day after (FAMILY) for any who wish to come.  There are still a lot of details to work out.  It is my intention to only send 1 mailing out, therefore I would like to get as many current addresses as possible.  I should have a master list that I can start sending to get some help from others.  If you are willing and able to take on 25 names or so to track down, please let me know and I will send you the names to research.  I have received a lot of good suggestions from many of you and encourage you to keep sending them.  There are many things that haven't crossed my mind that have been brought up (i.e. name tags) which will help keep everything flowing.

We are not planning to have a sit down dinner, but heavy appetizers (you can make a meal on them) in order to keep people moving and mingling.  We do want music, either a band or a D.J.- any suggestions or input??  We need to make sure we have records of all deceased classmates.  At the time of the 10 year, there were 9 people:  Ted Richards, Scott Oliver, Floyd Thacker, Ron Wingo, Terry McNeal, Brian Spurlock, Jimmy Parker, Gary Beeler and Seth Woods.  If you know of any of these peoples date of birth/date of death, please forward to me.  Also, if you know of anyone else who has since passed away, please let me know.

Thank you for all your help and input.

I have confirmed the baseball game with the Chillicothe Paints on Friday July 2.  We also have the picnic area reserved for that evening.  Tickets for the game including your meal are $10 each.  The meal consists of grilled chicken or a hamburger, potato chips and a soft drink.  Children 3 and under are free.  If you don't want the meal, I imagine you can just buy a ticket at the gate for $5.  There is a minimum of 25 reservations which I don't think will be a problem (my family will be 4 of them) and they waived the deposit, so we don't have to cough up any money at this time.  I just need to give a final count 5 days before the game.  We are also entitled to have someone throw out the first pitch of the game and have someone sing the National Anthem.  I have suggested Kent and Jennifer Glendening if they are coming and if they want to sing.  Any other suggestions are welcome as well.

As I mentioned before, the Pump House is reserved for Saturday July 3.  We are working on food, drinks and music.  If it appears we are going to have a larger crowd than the Pump House can accommodate (190), we can set up a large tent or two outside.  I am going to check with Nancy's sister to see if we can borrow theirs (trying again to save money :)

I reserved a shelter at the Great Seal State Park for Sunday July 4.  It is just north of town, towards "Tecumseh!"  There is a shelter, charcoal grill, water fountain, rest rooms and a playground.  Everything in town was already booked, and actually, this might be better considering it is the 4th of July.  We are planning it to be a "carry-in" style picnic with everyone bringing their own meat to throw on the grill and a dish to share.  We are going to provide plates, napkins, utensils and probably beverages (soda, water and lemonade).  Michelle Lunde will be doing face painting for the kids (old and young).  I will check the area out to see if there are facilities to play any games (i.e. volleyball, horse shoes, whatever...)

There is still a lot to do, but I think things have come together pretty quickly.  I appreciate everyone's input and suggestions and hope you will keep sending them my way.  Also, if any of you have an opinion about the cost of the Saturday night get together please speak now.  If we have a "goal" price per person we can plan our menu accordingly.  I am thinking $20-25 per person, but if you think that's too pricey, now's the time to say so.

Thanks again and I'll keep in touch.
