PURPOSES:

To acquire information about Poseidon, The Earthshaker, Lord of the Sea, Savior of Ships, and about his most famous residences: Aegae, Corinth, the Erechtheum on the Acropolis in Athens, and Sounion in Attica.

ATHENS: The ERECHTHEUM
  1. Read the story of the Contest between Poseidon and Athena for Athens (took place at the Erechtheum).

  2. Visit the area of The Acropolis of Athens

  3. A Map of the Acropolis

  4. Study the presentation of the finds from the Acropolis in the Acropolis Museum. Note the sculpture of the gods from the Parthenon, including Poseidon, and the Caryatid Porch from the Erechtheum.

CORINTH
  1. Visit the city, the Acropolis ("The Acrocorinth") and the sanctuary of Poseidon at the Isthmus of CORINTH

  3. Isthmia. The Ohio State University Excavations of the Sanctuary of Poseidon.

SOUNION
  1. Visit the sanctuary of Poseidon and Athena at Sounion (Attica)
