SOME INFORMATION ABOUT FINAL

The final will consist of 15 multiple choice questions (each worth 3pt) and 6 questions that will be hand-graded (5 worth 9pt and 1 worth 10pt). The last six are the problems you usually meet on midterms. For these problems you are supposed to show the solution and unsupported answers will receive minor credits.

The final will be 3 hour exam you should try to use this time wisely. Let us count how much time you will need. An average multichoice problem should take 3-4 minutes comparing to a "long" problem which should take 10-15 minutes to solve. All together it will take about 2 hours 30 minutes and about 30 minutes you will for a break or to check your solutions. You will not be allowed to leave the room except for special needs. It could be a good idea to bring a snack with you so you could give yourself a break. You can try to think what else can help to keep you in working condition for 3 hours and if this is not dangerous or illegal you will be allowed to do it.

Thinking about preparation for the final the following advise can be useful. First you can concentrate on understanding every midterm problem. You can use midterms of this semester, or midterms from previous semesters, or both. You can really say that you understood the problem if you change the numbers in the problem and can solve it in two minutes. After you confident with midterm problems try to look over homework problems and concentrate on those which were most confusing.

There will be help sessions and reviews in class. Bring the problems you do not understand there.

I wish to everyone the best luck on the final. Remember, the only purpose of the exam is to check how much you worked during the semester.
