COMMENTS: The result of the midterm are good. Many students have shown a strong understanding and an active thinking. Midterm #1 has also shown that this Spring 2002 class gathered people with quite different mathematical background and we will need to make many efforts to make this semester productive for everyone. Let me indicate some things which I believe will be useful.

First of all, even if you did not get the desired grade on the first midterm, you still can improve you performance. In the end of the semester there will be final exam and grade for the final will be basically you semester grade. So, there are plenty of opportunities and you should use it wisely.

In particular, all students are very welcome to the help sessions which take place every Monday at 4pm in Vincent Hall 213. On that sessions we try to answer all possible questions and they proved to be very useful in previous semester.

Another option is to use my office hours and your TA's office hours. The golden rule is following: spend 1 hour with a book and if you still do not get it go to my office and you will have it in 5 minutes.

Again, I will always encourage student to work and a hard work will always be recognized. Bring you questions in class and to the help sessions. Both TAs and me we will be very happy to help.
